La Pizzaeria
Nandini Praveen

Nandini Praveen has a long experience in running an ad agency. This is the first of the series of her articles on eating joints of India.

If you are looking at the best pastas with an even better view please do come to my favorite pasta joint in South Bombay La Pizzaeria . It's right opposite the India Ocean, and in the heart of the city.

La Pizzaeria with its French bistro look with open roll up curtains and tables lined almost on the sidewalk. The entire place has a casual feel and has people and waiters teeming around either grabbing a meal or a drink most evenings. When you enter here what hits you first is the smell of cheese and oregano.

The décor is well thought out and planned with its serviceable elbow space. And like most Sanjay Narag's places it has the feel of try everything on the menu.

We are ushered in by Maurice who as usual will greet you in with a smile and sage like views on how we want our pizzazz's and pastas. And in most cases he is right so look him up.

We begin our gastronomes journey with the iced tea, which incidentally is one of the best after Resham Bhavan now we shall save that for another trip.

For starters we go for the garlic bread, you must avoid the cheese part as it fills your stomach and kills your appetite or wolf away cause they are yummy and you are really hungry

I settle for my favorite meal here which is Pasta E fungi - that's macaroni and button mushroom in mozzarella cheese sauce that's like yummm as usual and its served with two portions of garlic bread Rs.165 /- .

My pals one of them had the Pollo Pesto which is chicken chunks in creamy parsley sauce, olives and pine nuts sauce, with two garlic bread portions Rs. 250/-. The other had Spaghetti Carbonara that is a creamy combo of ham, spaghetti and crispy bacon Rs. 205/-.

As we munch our way through the pasta's and tea, they also serve beer and other drinks. People on the next table are regulars, they settle for scrumptious pizzas. I did tell you they serve yummy pizzas but do have Maurice check and suggest some great combinations to suit most palates.

The crowd, we see here are college kids or office goers catching a bite and some foreigners getting some beer.

On a scale to 1 to 10 it's definitely an 8 - it's the best place for good pastas and pizza's that does not make a dent in your pocket book.
