Mysore District of Karnataka in India, is a popular tourist destination, offering several attractions ranging from the royal splendour of Mysore City and its fabulous Dasara Festival to exquisite temples, pilgrimage centres and scenic spots.

Mysore Dasara is a royal festival celebrated with great pomp over 10 days, beginning on the first day of navaratri. The legend has it that Durga killed the demon Mahishasuran on Vijayadashami day. It's a symbol of victory over evil.

Dasara is never complete without these colourful dolls being showcased in traditional households.

Festive season provides a boost to local economy. Petty traders and roadside hawkers, like the one in the picture, earn a neat packet, too. In the background is the Town Hall, city centre.
