It is amazing what an hour of working so hard, breaking a sweat, pushing your body till you can’t push anymore can do for your life. It is amazing how an hour of working out can build such a great deal of confidence and make you feel like a million dollars. I have been teaching all kinds of fitness classes for the past ten years and it amazes me that I still can’t get enough.

What am I talking about – you ask? I am talking about starting something new for the New Year. The best time to begin is NOW! I am asking all the South Asian youth out there to begin an exercise program that will help you feel better about yourself and also, it will help you stay healthy and fit in the long run. There are many South Asians that don’t include exercise in their daily routine and you being the youth can start something totally new that even your parents can get into.

I have met many South Asians who have wanted to start an exercise program and don’t know how to begin. The most important part to remember is to pace the workouts. It is recommended in the fitness field to workout three times a week for at least 30 minutes to maintain a healthy fitness level. Adding more days and more time to each workout can only help you and will also increase your energy level and self confidence. Working out just makes a woman feel absolutely beautiful about themselves.

It is important to maintain healthy diet. It is said that 80% of staying fit is diet and 20% comes from the workout program. A workout can consist of any cardio program that gets the cardiovascular system pumping with blood to produce energy. To get motivated to begin an exercise program is the most difficult. I suggest finding a friend that also wants to start a routine and beginning a program together.

This is also encouraging for all the youth to get their families to start to get into shape. Working out with another person is quite motivating and also fun at the same time. It can bring friends and family closer together and it is amazing what you can learn about one another in that hour. My mom, sister and I work out all the time together and it is great how we have bonded. The workout goes by very fast and before you know it, you add another hour so you can hang out with that person. Also, to get a partner to workout with you is all in the attitude. Find someone that motivates you just as much as you motivate them. This also teaches you to work with a team. Get everyone together. In the end, you being the team leader can pat yourself on the back for doing a healthy deed!
