The Beautiful Woman
You name it and they've got it. From Femina to Cosmopolitans to Savvy, to Women's Era. And plenty more that I am not mentioning here. All of these, as you might have guessed, are women's magazines. And I for one am all for it. Not everything they write in it makes sense but that's the idea, isn't it? Although when you look at it objectively its quite a wonder for a lot of it qualifies as a plethora of useful knowledge. Not only about what's the latest in fashions or what will and will not suit your kind of image but what you can do in the kitchen, at the office, in your personal life, blah- blah, etc.etc. I love the horoscope bit, well I must admit, I forget the very next hour what my stars read but it's the thrill of reading it. The agony columns are interesting, if you know what I mean! Sometimes it gets to be about more than reading a good book or doing what you usually do. You see when you are reading a completely women oriented magazine, it doesn't necessarily rule out men but it shows them in a different perspective. Here we are a collective group of women sharing our ideas from the writers to the editors to the ones of whom the articles consist of, not to mention the various opinion polls one gets to read. The openness within the magazines of today is truly wonderful. Where you know that tomorrow if you decide to share your two bits of thoughts, they would probably be accepted.
I must also sing praise of some of them making us more aware than we might be ourselves, about our bodies. For instance, Femina gives a completely viable method to test your self for breast cancer, in a step by step process. This is just one example... I can think of several reasons for women to subscribe to these various magazines but it's really a question of personal choice. We might not go to ball games and stare at the cricket matches. We might not even get along with most of our own sex but if we ever bonded in the self-sense then it was right this way. Three cheers to women who are just being themselves and doing their own thing. With no comparison to what men consider a feminist thing!
