Significance Of Gita
By- B.Upadhyay

As you grow spiritually, you are on a wonderful journey of self- discovery. You will increasingly understand yourself and the mysteries of this universe. Before starting any spiritual path, its better for you to have some ideas of Geetha, if you are a Hindu, which teaches us the basic realities of spirituality. It is a song of the soul, which is given by the Lord to free us from the delusion of every act and deed and finally to know our highest truth, the Atma.

To understand the meaning of the Geeta, the reverential approach is necessary. You must take up its study in an attitude of submission and expectancy. It is like a boat, which takes man across from the self-imposed state of bondage to the freedom, which is his true nature.

Human existence should not just involve the daily, secular activities. It is not meant for just raising a livelihood. The Geeta teaches the sanctity of human life, it directs man to his ultimate goal. It teaches us to make our livelihood in the world, in a way that enables the sanctity of human life. Geeta does not encourage you to renounce work, on the contrary, it encourages you to do your duty and perform all the activities appropriate to your status in life.

The inner significance of the Geeta has to be understood in the context of the human nature as it is expressed in the world, in the everyday activities of people. The most important objective of the Geetha is to bring down the priceless, ancient wisdom to the level of the mundane world and to raise worldly life to the level of the highest wisdom. The Geeta brings down Vedanta into daily life and elevates daily life to the level of Vedanta. It does not only introduce philosophy and spirituality into our daily life, but also introduces daily life into philosophy and spirituality. Hence, it reconciles spirituality and daily life.

Lord had promised in the Geeta---when a man is in Bhakati, the Lord will himself bless him with everything he needs. This grace will fulfill all his wants. Krishana said -"I will carry the burden of his welfare." So, try to experience this by doing eternal Bhakati. You can not get the real meanings unless you ponder on it and without applying it in your daily life. I have observed many friends and elders who basically know all the slokas of Geeta, but still fail to explain its real meaning. It does not make any sense, if you can not explain the essence of the real teachings. It is merely a waste of your precious time.

The Geeta teachings apply to every level of spiritual seeker. Therefore, the Geetha may be described as the heart of the Vedanta. It is its very essence. It is the support of all the earnest seekers and aspirants. A person who does not care for the Geeta misses the very purpose of life.
