The Ultimate Take-Away, From Belfast to New York

Owners of the Indie Spice restaurant in Belfast, Northern Ireland, will on Thursday be making what is otherwise a normal delivery from their kitchen, except for one thing: it's headed to New York.

According to The Time, the order will be blast-chilled before leaving and packed in dry ice so that it only need be heated through on arrival across the Atlantic.

Half of the food will arrive from the restaurant's Dublin branch by private jet, where the rest of the order will be picked up and flown to London.

From London, the food, which will be accompanied by one of the owners of the restaurant and the other owner's wife, will board a Virgin Atlantic flight to New York. It will be met there by a limousine that will take them to a private party in Manhattan.

The food will be stored in a special container that will be checked in as regular baggage, and all the airlines involved have been informed of the arrangements.

The meal itself, which includes fish bhuna, Bangladeshi tiger fish, four chicken chat masalas, popadoms, vegetable biryani, samosas and chutney, among other items, will cost Steve Francis, a New York dance music producer, 2,500 dollars (1,960 euros).

Including all the transportation costs, however, the price rises to more than 15,000 dollars.

"At first I thought someone was messing us about but it turned out it wasn't a wind-up (joke)," Arif Ahmed, one of the restaurant's owners, told The Times.

"We said we can do this, but what about the logistics? And they said, 'Don't worry, we can sort that out'."

"It took us a couple of days to ensure it wasn't a hoax, but we are very happy to make him the meal and hope that he has a night to remember."

Francis, who heads the Stush Music record company, is holding a private dinner for a young soul singer, called Heather Park, who is apparently a big fan of Indian food, his caterers told The Times. The newspaper said it could not contact Francis.
