Remembering 9-11 - Sunanda VashishtSunanda Vashisht was born in the beautiful valley of Kashmir, India when Kashmir was known for its unparalleled natural beauty and not as a cauldron of fear and terror. She did most of her schooling in Delhi and dabbled with several professions before moving to U.S last year. she is currently pursuing higher studies here. she likes to introduce herself as an explorer because she wants to spend all her time in this world exploring unknown. Writing for her is a cathartic experience. She can't remember when she began writing first but she does know that writing has always helped her to be at peace with herself and with the world around her.

This year September 11 was not just another day in the calendar. It brought with it a lot of memories, lot of scars that have not been filled, wounds that are still bleeding and questions that have still not been answered.
September 11 undoubtedly was an attack on freedom. Thousands of innocent people who became victims to the attacks signified that terrorism is closer to us than we think. The Terror Inc has successfully spread its tentacles around the world. Terror Inc is probably the true multinational organization since it transcends all the territorial boundaries and today it can exist anywhere in the world.
September 11 also signified that United States is not immune to the attacks from these barbarians who are have no qualms in killing innocent people in the name of Jihad. September 11 was also significant because most peace loving nations rallied behind the world’s oldest democracy to uphold peace and liberty to all the citizens of the world. India, world’s largest Democracy felt vindicated. After all, we have been fighting this war of terror for years now in Kashmir and before that in Punjab.
A year after September 11 attacks we should also spend some moments in introspection. We should seriously be thinking about how to get rid of this menace which is claiming lives all over the world incessantly. The peace loving countries around the world including United States need to fight this battle together. The kind of magnitude acquired by the Islamic Terrorism today cannot be dealt by one country alone or by use of force alone. History teaches us that there can be no end to violence. Especially violence that erupts from vengeance can only beget more violence.
This war can only be fought by treating all terrorists alike. Every time we discriminate between good terrorists and bad terrorists or the terrorists working for us and those working against us, we are losing the battle. United States needs to consider the world opinion before taking any step against any harbingers of evil. We need to exhaust all our political and diplomatic options before we resort to military option. It is very important to realize that in hating those we hate we must not become like them.
We at SAWF pray for all those who have lost their lives in this war of terror anywhere in the world. May good sense prevail on all.
Till we connect again...
