Adityodayam by Chitravina N Ravikiran
- Savita Narasimhan

Savita is one of the foremost disciples of Ravikiran and has herself performed in several countries like USA, UK, Spain, France and Germany. Under Ravikiran's tutelage, she has undergone rigorous training as a vocalist for several years. In the process, she has also had the opportunity to understand his treatment of various musical elements in the creation of a composition.

Select compositions of Chitravina N Ravikiran have been published and released for the first time in book form, titled 'Adityodayam'. The songs have been compiled and edited by Savita Narasimhan, disciple of Ravikiran, Principal of the Hamsadhwani School of Music and an acclaimed performing vocalist. The selection comprises 24 pieces (set in sanskrit, tamil and telugu) and includes varnams, krtis, tillanas, as well as a padam and a javali.

The book also contains commendations from the doyen of Indian music, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and V V Sundaram, an outstanding promoter of music. While Semmangudi declares that 'Ravikiran is a born genius', Sundaram goes on to show similarities between Ravikiran and Mozart, one of the most brilliant composers in Western music, who started out as a prodigy.

Ravikiran, who made international news at the age of two (in 1969) as the youngest performing musician in the world, needs no introduction to music lovers. He is globally acclaimed as a musician equally balanced between firm traditional Carnatic values on one hand and innovative, revolutionary world music ventures (as with the artistes of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, UK) on the other.

Ravikiran has had a long history as a composer too. When he was two, he discovered a new raga, Choodamani, named after his mother. His first full composition was in Samapriya, a raga he discovered when he was 11. Since then, he has created more than 450 compositions. Ravikiran is the first and so far, only composer to have composed in each one of the 35 tala-s of the Carnatic music. He did this in less than 30 days in his 30th year, in 1997. Ravikiran has been widely sought after all over the world to create original compositions for dance and music productions too, and his presentations like Lakshmi Prabhavam, Savithri, Vinayaka Vaibhavam and Cosmos have been presented to audiences in several continents.

Priced at Rs 75, the book is available at several leading outlets such as Higginbothoms, Landmark, and Saptaswara Musicals in Chennai, India. Music lovers in other cities and countries could contact the distributors, Karnatic Music Book Centre through email at: kmbc@hotmail.com
