Q I am a 50 years old woman. I have dandruff since my childhood. I must have tried all kinds of shampoos. Using Dandruff shampoo over the years has made my hair brittle. Can you please give me suggestion?
Ruby Shah
Shahnaz Answers: Most anti-dandruff shampoos are harsh on the hair. You need to treat the hair gently, using wide toothed combs and avoiding the use of hair dryers and chemical lotions for dyeing/colouring/perming. These would make the hair more brittle. Use a mild herbal shampoo and shampoo your hair daily. Use very little shampoo (half teaspoon for short hair and one teaspoon for long hair). We recommend the use of Shahenna mixed with 2 teaspoons Sharinse. Rinse thoroughly with water to get rid of all soapy residue. Only one application of shampoo is enough. Once a week, heat pure coconut oil and apply on the scalp, rubbing gently with cotton wool to dislodge the flakes. Leave on all night. Next morning, apply the juice of a lemon and wash your hair after half an hour. Use Shatone herbal hair tonic daily at night, applying it on the scalp with cotton wool. It is non-oily. If the dandruff is severe, you can apply Shaoint. Apply half teaspoon Shaoint mixed with egg white. Keep it on for an hour and then wash the hair. Do this twice a week. Wash your comb, towel and pillow covers daily in warm water, after adding some antiseptic solution like Savlon or Dettol. Include fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yogurt in your daily diet. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.
Q: You are my last hope. I have asked so many people and doctors but none of them have been able to help me. Before I started waxing I used to shave my legs. This has resulted in certain black marks which sometimes Itch . Some one told me regular application of lemon will help. Is that true? Could you please suggest some simple home made remedy for me? Thank You !
Ash
Shahnaz Answers: Did the doctors give an opinion or diagnosis of the condition or express any opinion regarding the itching? Apply sesame seed (til) oil on the legs and massage it into the skin before your bath. Mix besan (gram flour) with yogurt and apply it on the area, adding a pinch of haldi (turmeric). Wash it off after 20 minutes. Sandalwood paste, applied on the area, may also help. Lemon may cause further itching and may be harsh on the skin. You can try mixing lemon juice and rose water in equal quantities before applying.
