Mumbai Bar Girls

Two girls Naina (21) and Geeta (22) (name changed) staying as paying guest in Thakur Village, Kandivali, in Mumbai were rescued by Samta Nagar police station officials in Kandivali, Mumbai from a beer bar at Bangalore. According to police sources both these girls were searching for a job for past few months and were contacting people through newspapers and acquaintances.

During that process they met Deepak Tripathi, who was working earlier as a beerbar manager and at present is an assistant producer in bollywood. These girls told Deepak about their problems and asked them to get a job. Deepak introduced them to one of his friend Suraj Thakur and asked him to help them in getting a job. After meeting them for nearly a month, he took them into confidence and told them about some good jobs in companies in Bangalore.

Thakur then took these girls to Bangalore in guise of getting them interviewed for a job. Where alongwith his friend Sumit Singh he asked these girls to work as bar girls in a bar called "Naach". These girls refused to do what they were told to. The duo then locked them in a room and raped them subsequently so that they would act according to their wishes. But these girls finally after facing torture for nearly a week with the help of a customer at the bar got in touch with Deepak Tripathi and gave him all the information and the harassment they were being subjected to by these people. Finally Samta Nagar Police working on the information given by Deepak raided the beer bar run by the Suraj and Sumit and rescued the girls and arrested the duo.

The two girls are present in nari niketan where they in a state of shock and are trying to recover from the tragedy. Talking about the incidents Geeta said that she belonged to a middle-class family and wanted to have a decent job to support her family but all her dreams are shattered, as she has no face to show home. Says Geeta "Suraj Thakur for a month took us into confidence by telling us about his contacts and how he could get us a good job in Bangalore and all the while we could not even imagine that he worked for a bar. We both were so desperate for work that we did not imagine that trap was being laid for both of us."

According to police officials, "These racketeers have become operational in these areas because they know many job aspirants stay in these areas and an easy route for getting job makes these girls land into the trap of these pimps and conmen." Says Roshni Chaturvedi, social worker, “You aren’t aware of the pain behind the glamour. Many of these girls may have been kidnapped from the boondocks. Perfectly decent middle-class women from the hinterland. Many of them may have been raped before being let loose on the floor. You haven’t seen any of that. Similar is the case of these two women who have been fortunate enough to have been rescued by the police.”
