According to the CDC, (Center for Disease Control and Prevention), one out of four US adults exercised enough in the 1990’s. I was shocked to read this figure but is so true. Only 25.4 percent of adults have a routine of including physical activity in their daily lifestyle. I understand that many are busy with the stressful lives we choose to live, however, many also think that taking the time out to include the workout in their schedule is a waste of time. People are spending more time watching TV than taking a walk in this beautiful month of May. The weather is perfect right now, and you don’t have to worry about the heat. Outdoor physical activity is best performed at this time of the year! Physical inactivity can lead to obesity, which is closely tied to diabetes. Diabetes kills more than 170,000 Americans a year, and the number is rising at a rapid level.

Since the weather is absolutely beautiful at this time of the year, there are many different outside activities that can take place. Taking a walk around the neighborhood after dinner which helps digest your food, playing family sports over the weekend, which can also be time spent well with family, even challenging friends to a small bet to see who can get in the best shape by the end of the summer. According to the fitness guides, it only takes 30 minutes three times a week to maintain that physical need!

I suggest each person should schedule in their workouts on calendar, palm pilot or something since we have access to many tools to keep our lives organized. Or for those business people, it is like scheduling another appointment, but this is with yourself. Keeping this appointment is an incentive for you so you don’t cancel. And if you do cancel, then this will result in humiliation which will inspire you to show up for your workout appointment.

Each workout does not have to be hard work. Many people don’t realize that modern lifestyle activities being physically active in general rather than setting aside time is what is really important.

Keep smiling and stay fit!
