Beauty Parlour Tips
By- Rajini Shankar

Rajini Shankar is a Bangalore based copywriter. She runs her own ad agency.

Dear SOPH ladies(sophisticated and beauty-conscious) of sawf, here are a few tips for you when you visit your beauty-parlour for beauty-routine or a specific beauty treatment.

Waxing:

Avoid wearing rings,toe-rings,anklets,watch or dresses which are new or old but good, as the wax may splash. The risk of taking off the rings at the parlour and forgetting it, may be avoided, if you leave your valuable jewellery at home and makes the beautician's job much easier. Do not apply moisturiser on the area to be waxed becuase it prevents hair from getting pulled out.

Eye-brows trimming:

If you wear contact lenses, wear your glasses to the parlour, as you can avoid damaging your lenses and eyes while pressing your eyelids while the beautician works on your brows.

Bindi

If you wear sticker bindis avoid wearing them instead carry your bindi packet in your purse. While the space between your brows is being cleansed off tiny hair, followed by application of soothening cream, the wax on the bindi and the grease of the cream may not let it stick properly. Instruct the beautician to apply the cream only on your brows, not at the centre.

Hair coloring/ henna applying:

Avoid light colored clothes especially kurta and dupatta. The color-stains and henna stains can damage expensive clothes.

Perm:

Do not henna your hair atleast three weeks prior to a perm as the coating of henna does not allow perm to work well on hair. Don't perm and colour the same head

Hair-styling (like french knot or other styles):

If you are dashing off to a wedding or a party, wear something that opens fully, buttons/hooks running from neck to waist at the front and not the ones that require slipping through the head as when you re-dress after shampooing and styling, the dress can spoil a beautiful hair-style within seconds.

Last but not the least, carry your snail-mailing jobs or any writing/ reading /knitting to the parlour to utilize your waiting time(during henna and coloring) usefully and productively. If writing is your profession then a whole lot drafts can be written there. Idling is boring too... And beware of gossip!

Hope you like them and find them useful.
