Hello readers!

Welcome to Feeling Fine: Sawf’s sparkling health channel. This is your hosts Hemant Kumar and Shubhra Krishan: we’re both television and print journalists from India,  and we have been covering health for a long, long time.

First things first: this site is going to be built with your support. So do,
do share your ideas, personal experiences, and knowledge with us. They would be invaluable.

This site is aimed at everyone’s twin goals: how to look and feel great. No matter what your age- it is never too late—or too early—to begin. So read on: and Enjoy the New You!

Part I : BODY

Part II: MIND

Wake up your body: Just like you must build a house before you paint it, you must feel good before you can look good. Which means you must reactivate your body organs: your kidneys, your glands, your tissue cells, your blood stream. Once everything is functioning at 100 per cent, you don’t even have to try any more: you’ll just radiate!

Yes!  What you eat mirrors what you look like. Once you understand the power of nutrients and take charge of what goes into your body, the change in your entire being will be dramatic.  Now we know that it’s impossible to think of a single diet programme that works for everyone, so let’s simply list out the YES foods and the NO foods.

Say YES To:

  • Diet soft drinks and fresh lime soda: restrict to a glass a day
  • Fresh fruits: especially papaya, strawberries, melons, apples and oranges
  • Fresh vegetables: especially carrots, cabbage, celery, cucumbers, raw peppers.
  • Nuts and popcorn: in moderation
  • Skimmed milk
  • Whole wheat breads
  • Eggs: not more than two a day
  • Oil-free chutneys: except coconut
  • Soups without croutons
  • Salads with lemon, herb and hung curd dressing
  • Nothing but sweet kisses for dessert

Say NO to:

  • Anything containing white sugar
  • Anything made with white flour
  • Anything fried
  • Whole milk and cream
  • All soft drinks
  • Potatoes
  • Rice
  • Dried fruit
  • Chewing gum
  • Peanut butter

There: isn’t the NO list surprisingly short?

Try sticking to your YES list for just three days at a time, and watch the slow, subtle, but sure difference it makes to the way you feel. Have you discovered there is life beyond potatoes—and that it is actually great?! Has your new diet helped correct sluggish bowel movement? Has it made you feel fresher when you wake up in the morning? Are you beginning to get a more positive feel about your body? If yes, you’re right on track.

4.jpg (6823 bytes)   Three is a magic number

Just three days of sensible eating can change the way you eat forever. Once you understand the logic, it’ll be much simpler to follow. The truth is: the more you eat, the more your body demands. Did you know that your stomach actually expands if you keep overeating?! That’s why obese people never seem to stop feeling hungry.

Now these three days of healthy eating will actually shrink your stomach!! On Day Four, when you’re allowed to go back to your routine, you’ll find yourself saying “Not Really Interested.” Rejoice! The changeover has begun.

Tell Us How You Feel: Get back to us on Day Four. Do us (and yourself) a huge favour: write a food diary for these three days. Post it to us if you like, or just tell us what you observed about your eating habits: did you binge? What was your weakest hour? 4.30? Or 9.00 p.m.? Was the going easy, or too tough for words? Were you able to sleep on a psychologically underfed stomach? And of course, how do you feel now that you’ve gone ahead and done it?

  • You can’t count on anyone but yourself.
  • Whether you think you can, or you can’t, you’re right.
  • The best revenge is to live a good life.
  • If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.
  • To relax!
  • Honesty is nothing compared to decency.

Washing your hands:
Water flows over these hands
May I use them skilfully
To preserve our precious planet.

Looking in the mirror
Awareness is a mirror
Reflecting the four elements
Beauty is a heart that generates love
And a mind that is open

Gathas are short verses which we can recite during our daily activities to
help us dwell in mindfulness.

4.jpg (6823 bytes)   The Tao of Healing: Meditations for Body and Spirit  -   Haven Trevino

The cloud does not insist upon
Its form,
The wave does not force its way over
The ocean,
So why should you clutch so tightly
Your little map?

The greatest healer
Stays in the background
Orders no one
Talks little
Loves much.

To give, receive.
Be the wet, fertile valley
That rivers of life flow through
The full will be emptied
The empty, filled.
So be empty, that you may be filled.

Be A Witness: The Wisdom of the Upanishads  -  Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

What are the joys that we find in the world? Are they the object, or are
they in your senses? Each of the senses leads you to a point deep inside
you, that is the fountain of joy. The joy from a touch, sex, sight, music,
smell, or taste comes from a source deep within. And if you don’t move
within  to that point, the centre from where you exist, the joy is short-lived.
