Saif Ali Khan is the son of famous actress and earstwhile beauty, Sharmila Tagore, and the cricket legend and Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan. His sister, Soha, has recently joined films. With both of his parents being public personalities, Saif always drew media attention. He was known to be a wild teen.
He was born on Aug 16, 1970. He attended a boarding school in England.
He chose to take up films as a career. Most of his films after "Aashiq Aawara" did not do well. He was considered too feminine, with his long hair and lanky looks. He was about to be written off before "Yeh Dillagi" with Akshay Kumar and Kajol came along and he was liked in that role. The song 'Ole Ole' became a big success.
Then followed his 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari' with Akshay Kumar which also did well. But he ran into bad luck again with box-office busters such as 'Keemat', 'Hameshaa' and 'Tu Chor Main Sipahi'. He struck gold again in debut director Farhan Akhtar's 'Dil Chahta' Hai' with Aamir Khan, Akshaye Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. The movie became a major hit and he got an award for his role in it.
Saif was married to Amrita Singh, who was 5 years older to him, with whome he has a son and daughter. They had married secretly since Saif's parents did not approve of it. Friends gave their marriage one year. He was involved in a violent episode with a media person in response to the coverage of his marriage. Conveniently, this incident was not recorded by the police even after the media person took the complaint to them. Saif and Amrita separated in 2004.
Even though Saif's career has seen its lows, he has always been popular with the media for his spontaneity, sense of humor and bold responses to the interviews. People do like him now for his new looks and the screen confidence that he exudes.
