Ajay Devgan, whose birth name is Vishal, was born on April 2, 1967, and is the son of stunt coordinator, Veeru Devgan. He has reached superstardom because of his excellent performance in a series of good films. He is married to film actress Kajol, daughter of Tanuja. Ajay and Kajol welcomed their first child, a daughter, in April 2003.

Ajay is one actor who has gained stardom on the merit of his performances, not bas on Bollywood-style good looks. He started his career with movies centered on a lot of violence. Later, he ventured to make his mark in emotional and romantic roles. His roles in movies like 'Ishq' and 'Pyar To Hona Hi Thaa' brought out his softer side.

'Phool Aur Kaante' was his debut film in 1991. In 2000, Ajay produced and directed 'Raju Chacha'. He also produced 'Hindustan Ki Kasam'. But it was not until 2002 that Ajay's carerr was redefined. Fans and critics alike were impressed with his superb performances in movies like Company, 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' and 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh'.

Recently, having established himself as a good performance actor, Ajay seems to be experimenting with his looks – seen sporting highlights in his hair, a French beard and a moustache. His uneven teeth are no hindrance to his screen confidence. His confidence as an actor permeates into the characters he plays, bringing about an all-round convincing performance. Personally, Ajay is known to be a quiet person who does not like to party much and is a car enthusiast.

Ajay Devgan and his wife Kajol are the first Bollywood couple to have won Rs. One crore award on the TV show, Kaun Banega Karorpati 2005.

Kotak Mahindra Bank's Best Compliments Card is the latest product that Ajay Devgan and his wife, Kajol, are promoting. The couple is also doing an advertisement for Tata Indicom Truepaid of Tata Teleservices. For now, they are the only Bollywood couple doing ads as a team . In the summer of 2005, Whirlpool signed up Ajay Devgan as their brand ambassador.

Ajay Devgan hurt his finger and dislocated a joint while shooting for Prakash Jha's film Apharan in the Satara district of Maharashtra.

Raincoat , starring Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai, released in the last week of December 2004, saw only average returns at the box office, but now the film will be getting its worldwide TV premiere on ZEE Cinema UK on Saturday 26th February at 20:00.
