Mark Fiala comments : Unfortunately the gag reflex varies from person to person. Some people don't have a problem with it, while others have trouble with even the slightest pressure on the back of the throat.
To be honest, I don't know of any way to prevent that gag reflex from kicking in. It is a trained response, and in that sense over repeated time it should get easier and easier.
You might want to try some benzocaine strips (the same thing dentists use) which you should be able to get over-the-counter at your local pharmacy.

Rob Fowler comments : I had really bad Geographic Tongue with a very deep fissure down the middle. After taking two multi-vitamin B-complex tablets a day for 4 days my tongue is now almost perfect and there is a great improvement in the fissure which is now quite smooth. There is obviously a link between general health and tongue condition. I feel great and my tongue is 100% better. Just thought that some of your readers might want to try what for me was a great solution.
Karen West comments : If you wake up in the morning with a coated tongue should that be a concern. I don't know that difference between thrush, hairy... and just a normal white coating. When the tongue is brushed most of it comes off except for all the way int he back... however it looks whier in the back of the tongue. THe doctor says it is not thrush however why is it that my mouth does not have a normal pink tongue? IF you can assist me I would truly appreciate it.
Charlotte Kings comments : I have a quite normal pinkish tongue. But on the back it is whitey yellowish. When I use a tongue cleaner, it looks better and healthier, but it makes stripes down the tongue (if you know what i mean, i can't quite explain it) it is not damaging or critical, it is just the cleaner is grooved. and when i shut my mouth again it goes back to normal. All i want to know is how could i clean the whole of my tongue, not just stripes of it???
