Perhaps you do not realize that very few protesters in India would have known anything about Falwell. Probably not a single protester knew how America treats his utterances; you are correct about that. I wasn't among the protesters but I had no clue either how America treats Shri Falwell's utterances. To let you in on a secret, it is very much in the realm of possibility that many protesters may not even have heard of America.

Gandhiji had suggested after the great earthquake in Bihar that it happened because untouchability was being practised in Bihar those days. So there is some overlap there between Falwell and the great Mahatma. One hopes (against hope) Gandhiji had pure motive when he said that, never mind his stupidity.
