Karthik Krish comments : Dear Mr.Parrikar, A small doubt. Will Shyam Kauns feature in another roundup? In fact,Shyam Kauns seems to be th exact match for our own Kalyanavasantha in the south with SGMDNS/SNDPMGRS set to Keeravani scale.
The author responds: There are no plans at the moment to include Shyam Kauns which has been recorded by Parveen Sultana. There are several prakArs of Kauns, most of them of recent origin, which have not been covered in the feature. However, once the basic idea of what constitutes Kauns has been imbibed, it is not a difficult matter to discern any variation on the theme. Warm regards, Rajan P. Parrikar

I happened to visit this site by chance, as I wanted to explore raga Malkauns. The work you have done is worth appreciation in tons of gold.
I was delighted to see all great collections here. Particular mention must be made regarding unpublished work being made available of Bade Ghulam Ali Khansaheb and Moghubai Kurdikar. Honestly, I don't see any Malkauns and related ragas worth while, missing from your site. (except may be that of Pandit Jasraj)
thanks once again!

Montino Bourbon comments : Pandit Ravi Shankar played a version of Harikauns whose very strange scale was SgMDn. A very unusual performance, which I have to say left me unimpressed.

Dhirajlal Vasavda comments : Namashkar Mr.Parrikar I heard the absolutely wonderful duet of Hirabai and Saraswati Bai in Chandrakauns.
Just one question. Why did Abdul Karim Khansaheb's children have Hindu names and the last name same as their mother's maiden last name [ if I am not wrong]?
Was this Raag composed by Bade Gulam Ali? Was it called Harlai Sabrang? and later called Hari Kauns?
R.T.N.BALI comments : Excellent collection! Would like to know about other such collections that you have produced or produce in future. Malkaus is my most favourite Raga. Regards. Tapeshwar Bali

Dr.Raman Kolluri comments : Namaste, I am simply bowled at your knowledge and detailed explanation of the evolution of this raga ( It goes without saying that it is my favourite !). I wonder whether you have more information on the relationship of this with the South Indian "Hindolam". In any case , hats off to you. Keep up the great work
M.K.Natarajan comments : Dear Parrikar You have done a great service to the cause of music. I entered into the world of classical music only after listening Malkauns. Even after 40 years of listening Malkauns I still have the same enthusiasm to listen to the raga. The comments are wonderful and very appropriate.
I think Raag Dhani is a derivative of Malkauns. I may be wrong. Will you please enlighten me on this. God bless you.
Prof. M.K.Natarajan
P.Narayanan comments : Dear Rajan Sir, Very informative article which has enlightened layman like me who is into film music. But correct me if Iam wrong that Rafi rendering of 'Man tadpat hari darshan ko aaj' is the best Malkauns raag based in the film Baiju Bawraa which u have omitted. thanks
Sheela comments : Dear Mr Rajan Parrikar, I'm overwhelmed with joy listening to the old collections of classical music...There are no words of appreciation which can be expressed towars this site with antique collection of music..after listening to them I realised that music is divine...this is an ultimate tribute to our classical musicians.my heartfelt thanks for all your hard efforts in order to bring this music to the common man
Ratan Prakash comments : I am doing my Madyama Poorna from Gandharwa Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. I have recently purchased a male tanpura (used one). I have great difficulties in doing my riyaz using a tanpura. Is there a proper method for learners like me who are transitioning from Harmonium to Tanpura. I dream to become an exponent of Indian Classical (Vocal) in the near future. Is there a guideline for getting my performacne noticed by the senior artists ?
Devdutt Trivedi comments : Having heard Annapurna Devi's Raga Kaushiki with difficulty another instrumental Maihar rendition would be wonderful to listen to. Would it be possible to upload Nikhil Banerjee's rendition somewhere. I am doing some amateurish research on Ravi Shankar and can send you my 1300 word essay on him. Unfortunately very difficult to get hold of them especially Ravi Shankar alaap.Has Ravi Shankar recorded Kaushiki. I am searching for a long alaap in Malkauns by him having heard his exeptional recording.
R. Tapeshwar Nath Bali comments : Dear Mr Parrikar I have really enjoyed your website and continue to listen to excerpts off and on. I have been trying for over a year to get Malkauns sung by Pt Jasraj alone and have been unsuccessful. I shall be obliged if you could advise me of where I could get it, i.e. the company that has made the CD. With kind regards Tapeshwar Bali
Imran Rashid comments : Very informative, wonderful website....highly appreciate your effort....much kudos....keep up the good work!
Jagir Reehal comments : Dear Rajan.. first of all thanks for sharing your knowledge and passion of music. You are not only providing a resources for fellow devotees of Indian Classical Music but you have created a repository which will preserve our musical heritage. Secondly, I have two questions: a) There are many raagas whihc have kauns in the name. The latest I have heard is the very beautiful raaga "Kaunsia". Is it the case that they are all from the "Kauns" genre or are many of them just named ...kauns b) If there is a structure that defines a "Kauns" type of raga, could you share it with us please. Elsewhere I have read that the linkage ga-ma-dha-ni defines a kauns raga is this so?.. Thanks, Jagir
Sayan Sarkar comments : Sir, I think it would be really nice if you include Ustad Z.M. Dagar's Chandrakauns in your collection. Personally, I think it is of the best Chandrakauns recordings ever. Thank you.
Jashan comments : Sir, I was looking for information on Raga CHARUKAUNS. Being such an expert as you are can you please give me some information on this raga including the bandish? There is one bandish I have heard "Piya nahi aaye".... but cannot recollect the notations. Please guide me about the same if you are aware of this bandish.
