Karthik Krish comments : Mr.Parrikar, Is not Bhupeswari not otherwise known as BhoopKali?I did hear a Sangeeth Saritha Program on AIR where Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia said this raga was Bhoopkali, hence the doubt. Thanks, Karthik Krish
The author responds: The use of this scale to develop rAgas is a recent happening and it is likely that different musicians took up the scale independently, without the knowledge that someone else had already assigned a label to it.
I happened to hear Raaga MaanDu of Carnatic paddhati. Is it in anyway related to hemant of Hindustani? Thank you, Arun P.S: Apologies for the out-of-context question
Jitendra Gohil comments : I do not have any comment about this artical per se. I am very much interested about finding all of the recordings of Khansahib Abdul Karim Khan on CD format. Is it available? If yes, where and how I can obtain.
Sudhir Shenoy comments : Dear Mr Parrikar, Your articles are very good and informative and give a lot of insight into Hindustani Classical Music, especially for the uninitiated like me,to understand the nuances of the art.Your comments on the different versions are hilarious too. Thank you for doing a great service to mankind. Regards Sudhir R. Shenoy
I found this article when i was looking for "sahelaa re" on google and turned out to be a "khul ja simsim" kind of a thing. Well your efforts are very much commendable. Well i have no words to express the joy to see this article and i would like to appreaciate your love for the indian classical music though u are staying in US. Tell me about more such articles. Mandar.
My appreciation is in the superlative, for all the effort that you have put into making this an enjoyable listening, and informative reading.
I am looking forward to more material on Patdeep, and Kirwani.
Is it possible to have the audio clips downloadable?
I was looking for the lyrics for 'Sanjh bhayi ghar aja re piya' by Lataji, for the past 15 years(sinced I came to the U.S in 1988). At long last, I was so delighted to hear the audio, but I am still longing to hear the second 'anthra'. If you have the lyrics could you kindly send me?
Thanks again,
Chris
Kuldeep Barve comments : hi, my question to you is not in context of this article . i wanted to know whether it would be possible for you to guide me : firstly i am learning the dilruba . i dont have a teacher in pune, but i listen and try to play and since i have inputs from a sarangi player it is ok from the technique point of view.what i would like to know is whether there are 'good' recordings of the dilruba(solo) or accompanying available anywheres?also where and how would i be able to find out about the history and pedagogy for this instrument? and, i really sincerely appreciate your articles , in particular where you are stern about some people which in todays context is very very needed. kuldeep
Saleem Din comments : It is very informative website. Thanks for investing the time and energy. My question: Is Pahadi from Billawal or Kalyan Thaat??
Vinayak Raghuvamshi comments : Wow ! what else can I say. The single most detailed and informative web site on Bhoop and Deshkar.... The collection of clips from greats like Mallikarjun Mansoor - it is amazing... Thanks for making all this available freely to seekers like me...
Raza Saand comments : It is extremely appreciated by me. you have given us alot of information about the ragas that i like and i praise you for this. you have really put alot of effort in making this article so that we all can enjoy it by listening and can get information from it. Mallikarjun Mansur was great, his DESHKAR is excellent. I recommend you to have article on Raga Durga and Raga Pahadi.
Lyndon De Valle comments : A most interesting article. Something that I am still trying to understand about ragas is the nature of the nyasas. Until now I had assumed that vadi and samvadi would both be nyasas, but in the case of Bhupali, Dha, the samvadi, is the only note which is not nyasa. Can you give any comments then to the treatment of this note in Bhupali?
Thanks a lot for giving me and my mother the beautiful informative journey about various Ragas. We must appreciate your efforts behind putting such a wonderful document. Listening to so many CHIZ is great pleasure.
Hope to see more information from you in future. All the Best! Warm Regards, Nayan
Adwait comments : i need sahelaa re by kishori. Can you mail me the file . ia m unable to download
Manoj Karwande comments : Very well researched article ! Congrats.
Malang comments : A highly informative article full of requisite knowledge of the Raga Bhopali & derivatives, supported by a collection of rare & superb examples. In the recording of Nazakat & Salamat Ali Khan Bros. they say panjetan-e-paak se noor-e-anand deyo, not pundita ne however. Brilliant as ever!!!
The author writes: Thank you for giving the correct lyrics of the mukhda of the Jhaptala bandish. We shall make the correction shortly. Regards, Rajan P. Parrikar
Sanjay Kashalkar comments : Thank you for the enlightenment and the phenomenal samples!!!
Sadhana Degaonkar comments : A very good site and very good information. Thanks a lot. Sadhana
This site is a work of a genius, and i am not alone in saying that. We look forward to more education and listening to some real master pieces in the near future. Also one request, can you please tell me how do i get hold of some of the old works, which are niether available thru big brand label(like HMV, MusicIndia, and others). If i want to get a old LP recording where should i look for. Also a special note on Mansur Ji's vacanas, its out of the world experience, where can i find similar kannada vacanas from Mansur ji.
i would like to hear rags - patdeep/chandrakauns sung by ustad amir khan.
can you please provide or let me know the source to stream these rags.
regards,
Abhishek comments : Hi Mr. Parrikar, Have been enjoying your articles immensely for quite sometime so thought I'd drop a note and say THANKS! These articles are true treasures to 'hard core' rasiks as well as neophytes (thanks to your site I like to think of myself as slowly evolving from the latter to the former). This comment is specifically with regard to the Jait Kalyan section. While the clips you have posted are all masterly, I believe the divine Jait Kalyan by Kishoritai (sung along with that divine Bhimpalas that u *have* posted) is missing (I could not find it in the Vijaya Parrikar Library, either). It is arguably the best Jait Kalyan on tape IMO and the Tarana that follows it is (to the best of my knowledge) self-composed. I think it would also make a great study in Tai's raagdari to hear her Jait Kalyan side-by-side with her Bhoop. Warm Regards, Abhishek
Dr. Shivaram Bharathwaj comments : WOW ! i am dumbfounded. May your tribe increase and may your good work reach more people. Thanks a million
