A Tribute To Tyagaraja

Karthik Krish comments :
The writeup on Tyagaraja is nice.
In addition to the vaggeyakkaras you have indicated, there is a kriti 'Mahaanubhava Tyagaraja' in vijayanagari by one of the composers from the TQ,if I am not wrong.
HMB has composed one kriti 'tyAgarAja sadguruvani dalacavE O manasA' in Hindolam in praise of Tyagaraja.SKR seems to have derived inspiration from these lyrics to compose Satguru Sri Tyagarajam and set it up for an RTP in Simhendramadhyamam.Interestingly,he has used the same lyrics and sung another RTP in Shanmukapriya.

Rama Varma comments :
Many thanks for the article. A student of Carnatic Music, I found it very useful. Please post more articles like this.

R. Iyer comments :
The Tyagaraja article is simply superb! Eclectic, erudite and informative...I particularly enjoyed the comprehensive treatment of raga Nalinakanthi -the musical clips nicely illustrate how well known composers have been inspired and have copiously tapped into Tyagaraja's musical genius... A well documented article with detailed references. Kudos to V.N. Muthukumar and M.V. Ramana!

V.S. Ananthanarayanan comments :
The portrayal of Saint Thyagaraja By Drs. Muthukumar and Ramana is a magnificent piece of literature, the like of which I haven't seen or known anywhere else. I hope those who are privileged to read their article would realize that to build in 3 hrs worth of music clips, many of them rare, into an already elaborate essay is not an easy endeavour. My sincere thanks and congratulations to the talented authors for a job extremely well done.

Pritham Ramamurthy comments :
Excellent piece. Kudos to the authors for maintaining the flow and tempo (much like a concert), and helping guide me through various points. I look forward to more such articles from such folks who have painstakingly put together a treatise. The photograph of Sri Nedanuri Krishnamurthy is to be cherished (It seems to reflect the happy, sincere and content man I hear in his concerts). Cheers,

Like the many who have preceeded I add my vote of thanks for an excellent article that has much to offer in terms of unrepeated information for the lay reader. The material is presented in a well organized manner, facts followed by illustration making it easy to understand and assimilate. I have not read as interesting an article relating to Carnatic music before. This is obviously the result of many hours of research and painstaking work in assembling the photographs, and audio clips stemming from an impressive depth of knowledge. Thank you again.
Now for a question. Was the Raga Karaharapriya considered to be a favourite of Sri Tyagaraja and is he credited with discovering the Raga or for being one of the first to compose in it? I had thought that karaharapriya was a very old Raga. It seemed unlikely to me, however I read this comment recently in the writings of a well known personality. Please let me know your thoughts on this.
