I was very touched to read the review on your book and would love to obtain a copy. Shanti Kumari, my younger daughter, also happens to be a dancer like you and she also happens to be the grand-daughter of an Indian revolutionary, in this case, my father Dr. P.S. Khankhoje, a very close friend and comrade of your grandfather's, Mr. Bajpai. I have fond memories of having lunch with Uncle Bajpai and visiting with him in the Alameda Park in Mexico City, close to where he spent the last years of his life. I also remember your mother Indrani Rahman, a lovely lady whom I met in the early fifties and who well-deserved the title of Miss India. I still have a clear image of her luminous face and her graceful gestures.
I would love to get in touch with you. We have a lot to talk about.
Best wishes, Maya Khankhoje, Montreal.
T.SasiMohan comments : Dear Sukanyaji, I have read about ragini Devi's association with the dance legend Guru Gopinath. But in many of yourwritings about your gandma this name is often missing.Your mother indrani was looked after for months by Guru Gopinath and wife Thankamani. In his autobiography in Malayalam Guruji is giveng credit and reverence to Ragini Devi. It is a fact that Guru Gopinahs's artistic abilities had helped Ragini Devi in her persuit as an Indian Dancer
Dibyadyuti Roy comments : Indrani was crowned Miss India in 1954.The first Miss India was Nutan, the actress, crowned in 1953
Dev Gupta comments : Until 1964 I lived in Delhi. For about 4 years I worked with MF Husain and came to know Habib Rahman and Indra. They use to live in New Delhi and I visited them a few times with Maqbool Husain the painter. I now live in Chicago and own a restaurant. I am in the heart of downtown and if you ever visit Chicago, I would love to get in touch with you.
