Mukkai S. Krishnamoorthy comments :
A scholarly article - Very educative and informative. Does Mohana Kalyani belong to the Kalyani class or to the Mohanam class - Since the authors have talked about Yamuna Kalyani, I had this doubt. This article reads like a very good "technical" paper!

Shoba Srinivasan comments :
a very informative and interesting article.

to make an observation to mr. krishnamoorthy's query, mohanakalyani as we know, is a combination of the raga mohana and kalyani. the aroha has swaraas of mohana and the avaroha has those kalyani.

therefore it's rather a tricky question!

regards,
shoba

Raji Iyer comments :
Many thanks to all who have contributed to this endeavour! I hope you derived as much joy as I have had in listening..
I just finished listening to Ramnad Krishnan's rendition of "ammaravama"- (unfortunately just a 4-5 min clip),the neraval and swaraprastara (lasting for one avartanam) are simply superb! Yu can get just lost in a sea of Kalyani.....
So also was the 15 min enjoyable listening of Madurai Mani Iyer's "vasudevayani". As usual we get to hear the inimitable "Madhura Mani" style with his kalpana swaras, the neraval was also outstanding!
I have passed the link on...

L. Ramki Ramakrishnan comments :
I really enjoyed reading the erudite article on Kalyani
by V. N. Muthukumar And M. V. Ramana, as well as
the one on Kalyan by Rajan Parrikar.

The excerpt of Voleti's pallavi was my personal favorite
and I would love to listen to the rest of that RTP as well
as the concert if I can get my hands on it. To this end, it
would be useful if the audio clips were referenced with
details of the concert, if available (year,
sabha/radioprogram/disk-publication info etc.) to
enable the reader track down the source.

More generally, having companion articles on Carnatic
and equivalent/allied Hindustani rAgas is a great idea.
How about Kharaharapriya and its counterpart (Kafi?)
next? :)

Kannan comments :
It is very interesting to read your research article on Kalyani. Thanks very much for the same.

I have a request. If you have the notes for Bharathiyar's 'Chinnen chiru kiliyae' song, I'd really appreciate it, especially if it is the Raagamaalika version.

Thanks again for your support to Carnatic music.

Tara comments :
very attractively presented article. it was a blunt end to the dkp-dkj piece though, especially since the truncation occurs in the middle of vibrant kuraippu swaras. kindly give us a pointer to the recording...its a collector's item.

S Shankar comments :
Excellent article. However, I was unable to open any of the audio links.
HELP!
Thanks

Garimella Subramaniam comments :
Not much of a comment really. But I am pained after reading your two well researched papers, backed with audio clips, that the great Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna does not figure anywhere (except a cursory reference in the discussion on ragams with three and four svarams. The reputed Sruti magazine has the distinction of not having carried a single write up on Balamuralikrishna.
Sincerely,
Garimella Subramaniam

Yasaswini Sudarsanam comments :
Hi,
One of the most comprehensive articles devoted to the kalyani ragam.
I was overawed by the audio clips posted and the weight of info they carried.Hats off!! Keep up the good work and do let us know similar links on other ragas.

Chandrasekara K A comments :
There is a refernce to ariyakudi singing vanajaakshi and KVN singing vanajaaksha. But the rams reveal it to be other way around.
May be the authours /editors can fix that gltch. Its either the text that is wrong or the files have been named wrong. (Intercahned ariyakudi and kvn).

Sujanitha Umamaheswaran comments :
A very informative article which tells us about the different styles of eminent artists. It tells us about the richness of the Kalyani raga.Good pictures and audio clips

Ramdas Menon comments :
I think this article is absolutely brilliant. Being something of a bumbling amateur (in music and writing) myself, I could not help noticing the breadth and scope of this article. Keep up the good work.

P. H. Thyagaraju comments :
I appreciate the article. I would like that Mr Muthukumar and Mr Ramana elaborate on how Kalyani as its stands now, differs from Mechakalyani. I personally believe it differs. I only solicit an elaboration.

I do agree with Dr. Garimella Subrahmanyam that the research is incomplete if you do not touch upon the work of current day luminaries who have contributed to the growth of music.

About Mr. Mukkai Krishnamoorthy's point on whether Mohana Kalyani belongs to Mohanam class or Kalyani class. I would like to say that it should have shades of its own, without belonging either to Mohanam or Kalyani. As far as janya-janaka question is concerned, it may be noted that according to some scholars, Mohanam itself is the janyam of Mechakalyani.

Rajasekar comments :
enjoyed reading the article on Kalyani and the listening to the clips of the kalyani rendered by some of the doyens of carnatic music. particularly enjoyed MDR and KVN who are my favourites

Ramesh comments :
