Shawn Proffitt comments : I very much appreciated your article. It was well-written, articulated and the points well-taken. I can tell you that as an American white male in his late 30's, it bothers me greatly that I hear people in this country bitterly divided over what should be done. I'm hoping that we Americans will take a good wake-up call from all of this. One does have to realize that while there are awful things going on in the rest of the world, we (with some exceptions) largely are ignorant of such things. So this has been a shock for many American people, beginning with the question 'Why do they hate us so'? We're a bit naive I think sometimes.
Anyway, I wanted to ask you of your opinions since this article (following Afghanistan and where we are currently).
Thank you, Shawn
William Laine comments : Your story is sad and shows how little you have learned from the history that this world offers for your learning. Your "peacefulness and higher understanding" is similar to that shown by Neville Chamberlain during the rise of Hitler.
The United States is a country that has repeatedly come to the aide of the rest of the world, yet you immediately assume that our "ego" has been hurt by an attack against men and woman of all nationalities and races. You and liberals of your kind immediately assume that the USA is deserving. Otherwise, how could you take such a ridiculously harsh tone towards a nation that had just been attacked in this way.
You and your kind want to liken Nagasaki and Hiroshima to this attack, yet you forget that the USA received an unprovoked attack in each case. You forget that good and evil exist. Evil is not relative, it is simply evil, and this like most other wars that this world has endured is clearly a clash of "good vs. evil".
Pull you head from your butt and recognize who the evil is, and god forbid that you have to come face-to-face with it before you realize that your altruisitic beliefs are simply naive.
