Sherry Andresen- LaMora comments : Thank you for the easy to understand article on PCOS and insulin resistance. It answered so many of the questions I had! :)
Patrisha comments : Very Informative article. There is diabetes on my Fathers side; I think that predespostion and carbs made me develope PCOS. I did have a baby thou just this yr. But I am still, with out a period. Just as I was prior to having my son.?? I used acupunture/and had joined the GYM prior to getting pregnant! Weigh loss does seem to help me get pregnant. This was my 4th pregnancy. Only one carried to term!! GOD BLESS MY SON TRAE! GOD BLESSED US. I really need to lose weight thou. Its soo hard.
Shreya Mahajan comments : I have also been diagnosed with PCOS and am struggling to reduce my weight, stay healthy, and cope with artificial hormone treatments (birth control pills) which unfortunately have had some negative side affects...anyone else with these problems? My doctor also mentioned that there was a study that found 52% of Indian immigrants in the UK had PCOS!! any thoughts on why this is? thanks for the informative article!!
Rubina Bibi comments : i have pcos and am obesse and have tried to loose weight but only loose 2 stones and end up putting it back on i wanted to know if the metformin will work on me to help me get pregnant quick
My gyn Dr. Nadine Burrington in Mount Vernon, WA~ was one of the pioneers who co-wrote a medical book on this syndrome.
I was very lucky to have her in my town (at the time) and be treated by her. She immedietly did all the proper tests, she put me on birth control and metformin.
The metformin affected me by reducing my appetite significantly, and I started working out at the same time...
I eventually lost about 55 pounds, and looked and felt better than I had my entire life.I still had another 50 pounds to lose, but I was at my mid-way point.
Years later, here I am- I didn't continue the exercise and eating well program, and gained most of it back.
I am now nearly 25 and my husband and I want a family. We have been off of birth control for about a year.
My husband and I are obese, so we started working out to TAE BO (BILLY BLANKS) and it helps a lot. It gives us energy and so on. But, I haven't tried the ZONE diet, but I think I will look into it.
I lost the most weight on Atkin's but it was EXTREMELY hard to continue on it... It is VERY RESTRICTIVE! But, I hear THE ZONE is similar, but allows more variety and it's not as restrictive.
So, good luck to all- PCOS is not a death sentence. We can have issues, but with Medication, and proper medical attention, we can overcome it. KEEP FAITH IN GOD, and know that we are all being TESTED...
I am now trying to lose weight, as I said- and then I want to visit a OB/GYN in CA (where I live now) and get tested to see if I need Clmoid or another medication to get pregnant.
Good luck!
Frus Trated comments : I am continually frustrated at the articles I read on PCOS. Not one of them seems to describe me at all, yet I clearly have the condition. I am thin5'7"(115 pounds), I eat what I want and do not need to work hard to maintain my weight, all the research says that I should be more or less asymptomatic. However, I am amenorrheic and have quite high testosterone levels. My body fat distribution is not different from age and weight matched counterparts, in fact, I am probably leaner. There is no infertility in my family and neither is there any diabetes. I have tried Metformin with no success (am still amenorrheic). When is somebody going to give me some answers?
Helen Wilson comments : Thank you so much for this article. I have been diagnosed for 20 years now as being PCOS and have received very little support from friends and family. They see my weight problem as being self inflicted. I am a very educated confident caring person but this disease has affected every aspect of my life. Abnormal hair growth, tiredness, high blood pressure, diabetic type reactions, weight issues and infertility. This disease is horrific. However, I have maintained a positive attitude and hope that this type of article is widely distributed to give PCOS sufferers the chance to understand their disease
Stephanie comments : This was a great article. It really helped my husband and parents understand my struggles. Thank you so much for stating all those details so simply.
Tessa Douglas comments : Hi, I'm happy to know that there is artiles like this about pcos. so people can read and learn more. i'm 27 yr old. and about 100 lb over weight. i really don't get any sopport because the people around me do not understand what i feel. i found out that i have pcos ofter i miscarried. i was so sad , and still ask my me. i think i still really need help.
Kanwal comments : If you surgically remove ovaries, would that take care of PCOS? Is it advisable?Would you still be able to enjoy your sex life after that?
Lady J comments : This article is very reader-friendly and informative. It answered a lot of questions I had about metformin. It also satisfied my curiosity about possible side effects; however, I realize that we are unique creations and there's no "one fit for all."
Jyothi comments : Hi, I am into Medical transcription and while looking for a word in the search engine i came across your article which was truly very informative and very informative. Thanks to your interest in a study like this. I had knowledge that metformin does lead to weight loss but never knew it also helps in checking hormonal imbalance and its side effects. I am suffering from menstrual irregularity and also female infertility, added to obesity and both my parents are diabetic. i have my sugars checked once i year and now every 6 months, but have an intense craving to eat sweet after lunch and dinner and whenever i am idle. Is it safe to take metformin without the doctor's advise or to take it even if you are non diabetic. please help
Steve Guy comments : Great article and very clear - was kind of helpful to me (I am a bloke). there does not seem to be much info to help blokes who are not diabetic but have cell dysfunction and are on Metformin. Regards, steve
Tanyac comments : great article and easily understanding for non medicine persons.even i have been diagnosed with pcos when i am 16 years old.for about 2 years i suffered with obesity, irregular menstrual cycle.later due to mental tensions i lost weight and able to maintain till i turned 24.later i had a kid and again gained weight.this time i gained 50 poundsand day by day it worsened.recently i have been to gynecologist and he recommended me metformin.i feel like reducing weight and my apetite has decreased.before when i used to diet,i felt very sick within 3 days i used to eat double quantity food.but with metformin i feel more energitic.
Jackie comments : daughter 16 yrs old diagnosed pcos, withinsulin resistence, obese , past year lost 16 kgs with lifestyle changes , exercise 5-6 days each week , and carorie reduction, started metformin 400mgs twice daily in jan 2008 , and although continued exercise and dietary regime , lost 1 kgs in 3 months , consultant endocrinologist satisfied with weight loss, and increased dose of metformin up to 800 twice daily, as mother i am worried that metformin has has slowed weight loss. has any one else noted this effect ?
Caroline Yeager comments : Very informative. I've dealt with many of the symptoms described but my diagnosis was metabolic syndrome which often mirrors symptoms of PCOS, according to my endocrinologist. Is there a known link between the two conditions?
Cb comments : one of the best, most informative, most easy to read articles i have read about pcos.good job!
I found your article very helpful as I recently went to my GP to complain about why I am not losing weight regardless of going to the gym regularly and eating healthily. She has suggested Metmofin to me and is looking into it more before prescribing it. Your article has shed light on its effectiveness and given me some general knowledge about PCOS.
