Dear Mr. Parrikar: Your commentaries and clips are most illuminating, wonderful to listen to & are so well put together. I've listened to them many, many times. I envy your accessability to these clips and great musicians! What is equally amazing is your sometimes acerbic (and humorous) take on certain artists' capabilities. Boy! you're a brave man to take on such established names. :) Pls. continue your good work in the name of the ultimate: MUSIC, aka, the Supreme Saraswati.

Very illuminating. I was particularly delighted to come across so many "lost" artistes. And to be re-acquainted with so many of Mallikarjun Mansur's renditions - that was a bonus. Thanks and keep up the great work...

this is a fantastic web-site....all the information is very well put together and a delightful read! I am a great music enthusiast (of all genres) and spend long hours meditating on indian classical music..I am also a music collector and the information provided on this website has been a great help in understanding some of my favorites....thanks for the treat! Please let me know if you are ever visiting Toronto, Canada, and if you would be interested in becoming part of my music club here...I know some musicians and singers who indulge in the indian classical raaga...I would love to have your input in our club...please do write! Thanks again,
Tess Hamid

Nat-Megh indeed! And living in the United States, you MUST know Rag Betty-Bhup!
So, it's 'the naked emperor', is it? I refer you to the early 60's recording of Chandranandan, one of the ten greatest recordings in existence, whose inspiration, depth, and clarity has almost never been matched. Even the most die-hard conservatives in ICM admit,"There is no one like him!"
Naked he might be, but still an emperor.

Kedarnath Raikhelkar comments :
Mr.Parrikar,
I have enjoyed both the clips, and the insightful explanations which I am still mulling over.

I was wondering if 1)Bhoop-Nat of either Ashwini Bhide or Kishori and 2) Nat-Hamsa of Vijaya Raghava Rao recordings are published and available.

JV comments :
Don't forget: on Rajan's Library pages, there is an absolutely fantastic, long clip of Mogubai singing Savani Nat.

The clips were divine. I think the Bade Ghulam Chhayanat piece was performed at the Jhankar Music Circle, Calcutta and recorded by Shri Jnan Prakash Ghosh (with Khan Sahib's permission).
