Preetha Suresh comments :
I enjoyed reading your article. Even today, when the world is poised at the beginning of a new century, back home the `what will people think' refrain has yet to change. Everything from a baby throwing tantrums(probably only to draw attention to his soiled pamper!) to selecting an offbeat career causes waves across many sections of a middle class India. I believe what we need is to find a balance in ourselves rather than let others dictate our thoughts and actions.

Priya comments :
Yes Preetha, we do need to find a balance or centre of calm within ourselves. But how many of us can break through our cultural conditioning of paying heed to societal mores? It is something each woman has to work on. Networks and mentors can help to an extent, to show an alternate path and perhaps even support one along the way. But ultimately, it is an individual quest--finding satisfaction and leading a fulfilling life. Thankyou for responding to my short-story. You did pick a relevant point.
