Noor comments : Please explain Nilambri raga in your own voice. you are explaining each raga in this article in your voice but why nit Nilambri? why did you miss it?
J S Pande comments : dear shri parrikar, the hori sung by k l saigal "mein jo dinan ki thori is not an unpublished work. it may not have been reissued, which is something different.but it is from a commercial 78 rpm disc. it is good that vijay kumarji has decided to share it with your site. i had got it from a collector in delhi and given him the copy. sincerely, j s pande
The author responds:: Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I shall make a note of it when I next revise the article. Regards, Rajan P. Parrikar
J S Pande comments : dear shri parrikar, thanks for the acknowledgment. on the same subject, i thought i should record my grateful thanks to shri m.s. bindra of delhi, from whom i got the recording. the song is remarkably risque, if you listen to the lyrics! sincerely, j s pande
Accidently I found this site, while searching for 'Malkauns'
Ever since, I have visited the music section on SAWF.ORG many times. I enjoy the Sangeet.
Each of my visit makes me feel better. Each of my visit makes me feel connected to where I belong to and makes me proud of my roots.
I have no doubt in my mind that creating such a wonderful virtual sangeet kosh is mammoth task. The task of selecting the best from all the scattered 'ratna- mauktika' needs eyes of 'ratna-paarkhi'.
Please pardon me for my 'upamaa', but you have potrayed the spirit of a honeybee (madhukara). You researched and selected the best from the sangeet-udyaan. You have gracefully shared the same with us. The sweet madhu (sangeet) that you have collected from each variety of the flower (artist, raaga, gharana ..) will prove as a valuable sanchay for generations to come.
You have the heart of sharing what you have collected. You are down right honest about what you have felt about it.
I believe, what you have presented is the finest and pure form of sangeet on the face of the earth.
When we hear these timeless, godly creations, I come to an opinion the ' moksha lies here'.
Thank you for creating such a vast, invaluable swara-sanchay for 'kaan sens' like us, who may not necessarily follow the 'technical aspects' of the simply adorable music form
My late grand father was fortunate to hear Bal-Gandharva in person. As a young kid, I witnessed him choked with emotions by the memories of Bal-Gandarva's performance. My Parents are fortunate to hear Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande in person at Pune.
Very often when I listen, I consider myself very unfortunate not listening to these legendary, godly souls in person.
One of my request is if you can write a separate article on the 'Natya-Sangeet' form.
On a side note, I have not seen sound clips from Ustad Rashid Khan (Rampur) in your articles.
Thank you
Salman comments : I never had those kind of unique site u deserve 4 salute. & ur work is really owesome.GOD bless U
I found this site by accident and I rejoice reading your articles. I am a student of vocal music, I live in Argentina and although I have my own collection of Indian Classical recordings I would really benefit from listening to the audio files, which, for some strange reason, I cannot open. I have consulted with colleagues who understand these technical matters more than I do and even they could not find a solution. Can you tell me how to listen to the files? Real Audio does not work. Thank you very much. In an era where this magic music finds (almost) more adepts abroad than in India, it is reconforting to find such insights posted so openly in the net and I wish there were more sites or undertakings of the sort. I also wish to say that ICM has a quite an audience in Buenos Aires (the city I live in) and I wish more masters would come to perform among us. Sincerely, Mira.
Srinivas comments : Namaste Parrikar Sahib, Can you please tell me where I can find Pt. Jha's 'Abhinav Geetanjali' in India? Regards -s
Shambhu Nath comments : shreeman ji sadar namaskaar mai hindi and bhojpuri me geet likhataa hoo, mai soch rahaa hoo, ki koi hamari geet ko compose kar kisi singer se gawaa sake to bahut hi sundar hotaa agar aap ke knowledge me hai to pls hame bataaye,
Gautam comments : Can you talk about Raga Vachaspathi a bit? History, etc?
Subhas Chakravorty comments : Rajan Parrikar ji Wonderful statement. And a wonderful song.
"We conclude with Kishore Kumar, who has meant more to me musically than anyone else. He made our world better and more beautiful by being in it. This is his own composition, from his movie DOOR KA RAHI (1971): khushi do ghaDi ki mile nA mile"
--Wah Wah! Thank you for this observation.
Rudrasen comments : Once again thank you a million times. You deserve a separate dedicated website. You have rich original & compelling content. My Salutations to Shri Pandit Ramashreya Jhaji. Love his voice & what in-depth knowledge! Somehow you have the knack of picking up the real gems. You consistently pick & publish the timeless classic. Where do find these? No one else on the internet has them or sells them. I reached your website when searching for bandish in Kamod Raga that my brother sung; ( My brother studied under Kishori Amonkar. http://www.hamsa-yoga.org/shivraj.htm )
I went crazy searching for it ; then I asked him for the artist & raga. Google search immediately threw me on your website. In 10 minutes I found 4 other old bandishes by BGAK & KG on your website. All the great stuff in one place!
Most people listen to music like cattle grazes on fodder. They will consume anything that thrown in front of them. Your site educates us all. I also love how you pick up Hindi film songs based on the ragas & compositions. Above all I love your photos. Beautiful & so nostalgic! Take the viewer back to that era.
Sanjiv Shah comments : Words are insufficient to express my gratitude and the value of this great treasure-house of Hindustani classical music that you have compiled and created. I must add however, that your wanton bashing of Bengalis (referred to as "bongs" in your articles) as a group, regardless of your (probable) experiences with a few Bengali individuals smacks/reeks of ethnic prejudice. I encourage you to remove these blemishes from this wonderful collection and from your mind and to free yourself.
Zafar Rahmani comments : Mr.Rajan I am a student of music and it would be very kind of you if you could give your expert opinion about the two greats, Rafi and Kishore Kumar. How would you compare them? As for myself I am veterinarian by profession residing in Toronto. I had the honour of learning tabla from Ustad Shaukat Hussain who was the student of Mian Kadir buksh of Punjab gharana. I am sending you a copy of a letter than I sent to a friend expressing my limited views. You would find two letters. The first one is my letter addressed to few friends and the second one in the reply of a friend in response to my letter. I would also like to have your broad opinion as a whole about the topic discussed I would really appreciate your reply Sincerely Zafar Rahmani
It is amazing that you are recording history (of hindustani music) in digital mode with so much penance and passion. Hope we will have many more articles like this in future... shantilal panwar

Not being a technical wizard, I would appreciate knowing how to convert the ram files posted on your website into mp3/other widely used files that I can download and listen to. Your postings are truly a treasure and hats off to you for this service.
I have no words to express my gratitude for the kind of guidance I am getting through your articles. I hope I could meet you personally and share my feelings. The friendly tone in the article and your command on english makes it more interesting. Jha saheb's speaks are of immense help. Please upload if you have any more explanations by Jha Saheb on any more raags and paddhati.
You have done a stupendous work in presenting samples of almost the entire variety in Hindustani classical music (ragas, styles, musicians) in one place. Possibly the best introduction to Hindustani music.
I will be extremely grateful if you are kind enough to send me the words and the meaning of the Amir Khan Darbari song included in Part I of `The Kanada Constellation' (aptly described as "This has got to be among the greatest pieces of recorded music").
About classical vocalists from Bengal, I feel that singers of the past like Bhismadev Chattopadhyay, Tarapada Chakraborty and Jnanendra Prasad Goswami were superior to those singing now. Unfortunately, there seems to be a general lack of awareness about these singers, even among Bengalis.
Thanking you, Indrajit Mitra.
