Praveen Srivastav comments : I enjoyed the article on the pronuncians across India. I wonder if you can shed some light on why in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and some southern Indian states, the "ri ki matra" is pronounced as "ru". For example Krishna versus Krushna (u pronounced as in Student).
